Congratulations to RKCC’s Pierre Vanderhout, part of the bronze medal men’s fours team at the 2023 Canadian Lawn Bowling Championships in Victoria, BC. The competition ran from August 18-26 at the Juan de Fuca Lawn Bowls Club. Representing Ontario, Pierre and teammates Gary Pickering, Bill McCollam and Michael Spadafora defeated British Columbia in the bronze medal game. BC had thumped the Ontarians 21-12 in the round robin, but the Ontario foursome prevailed when it counted most, claiming the bronze 18-10.
Pierre and his wife Louise St. John took up lawn bowling to bridge the gap between curling seasons, finding it a sport they could enjoy together and that was a lot like curling. So much like curling, in fact, that they quickly came to excel at the sport. Louise has also qualified for a national championship; she will be competing in the Canadian indoor singles championships at the Pacific Indoor Bowls Club in Vancouver in October 24-28.
Pierre and Louise are members of the Kingston Lawn Bowling Club.
