This course is for curlers who have completed the Learn2Curl program, have less than two years experience, and want to continue curling in a supportive and fun setting. There will be opportunities for on ice consultation and to work together with an experienced instructor.
Curling is called ‘Chess on Ice’ for very good reasons: strategic moves and countermoves. Learn2Curl taught you how all the pieces move. Novice Club takes over where the Learn2Curl program left off - it will teach you how the game is played!
The goal is to show you how the game is played from the inside out, increasing your skills, understanding of why certain shots are better than other shots, how to miss a shot on the right side, overall game strategy and, most importantly, confidence in your own curling abilities. There will be lots of ‘Ah Ha’ moments along with lots of fun game play. You will gain insight into team structure and the roles and responsibilities of each team member. Most importantly, the program will introduce you to new friends who may become your future teammates. There will be Q&A sessions to inform you of the different curling opportunities within our Club so you are ready to register for curling as a member next year.
The fee is $270 plus HST for the winter session. Curlers need their own curling shoes, or slider and gripper. Curlers may use club stabilizers and brooms. The program starts on Monday January 18, 2027 at 7:15 PM. Participants should arrive by 7 PM at the latest. We have room for 50 participants so register early. You will get 10 playing lessons (with no classes in the week of March Break or Easter Monday) culminating with the ‘Last Chance to Dance’ fun Bonspiel on April 10.
Existing Club Members: Please note that if you have less than 2 years of experience and want to improve and experience your own ‘Ah Ha’ moments, you will also be able to join the Novice Club (at no cost) subject to available capacity.

The Royal Kingston Curling Club was established in 1820 making it Ontario's oldest curling club. Originally located at the foot of Earl Street, the club has had five locations, the longest stay being at 75 Clergy Street. The club moved into our current well-equipped accessible facility in 2006. We celebrated our 200th anniversary in 2020.
We foster a welcoming, respectful and inclusive environment where all can participate, compete, volunteer and socialize with a sense of belonging.
RKCC has six sheets of excellent ice, indoor pickleball in the summer season, and the club has a large and welcoming banquet lounge and bar. Our site has a large parking area and we are on the Kingston Transit service. Our facilities are available for rent. We host multiple invitational bonspiels for both fun and competitive curling and we are proud to host various provincial curling competitions.
